Description:
When I was a young child, our family drove from Brisbane to Caloundra for our annual beach holiday. Packed into our old Volvo sedan, I the youngest of four, found myself relegated to the rear-facing seats in the boot, barely able to move amidst the baggage.
On one occasion, in the pine forests along the highway, I spotted a wild white horse galloping through the trees. Excitedly I yelled from the boot, but buried beneath luggage I doubted if anyone heard or believed me. Perhaps my vivid imagination as a creative kid made them skeptical.
Since that moment, I've held a deep admiration for the mesmerising elegance of wild horses. In my painting, I’ve delved into the untamed world of Australian Alpine Brumbies. I utilised bold, gestural marks to convey the raw power and boundless energy of these majestic creatures. This piece seamlessly blends representational and abstract elements, in the same way my mind recalls this childhood memory.
